Anna Bulkina

Probably it happened by chance but Italian pianists had no luck at the Busoni International Piano Competition since Sergio Perticaroli won the first prize Busoni. Recently while the pianists who comes from Russia,Argentina, China step up to the podium, our pianists let them the stage.

This year, the two juries, composed by: Marta Argerich (Argentinian concert artist and pianist), Nicholas Angelich (American concert artist and piano teacher at the Paris Conservatory),Giorgio Battistelli (Italian composer), Numa Bischof Ullman (Swiss cellist and chief conductor of the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra), Pietro de Maria (Italian concert artist and piano teacher at the Music School of Fiesole), Alfredo Perl (chilean pianist and chief conductor of the “Detmold Chamber Orchestra”), Menahem Pressler(American pianist and concert artist), Daniel Rivera (Argentinian concert artist and piano teacher at the Conservatory of Livorno), Tamara Stefanovich (German pianist and concert artist), Kun Woo Paik (Korean pianist and concert artist), Lylia Zilberstein (Russian pianist and concert artist). have decided not to award the first prize. Decision now to the “Busoni” in Bolzano no longer surprising.

The Second Prize was assigned ex-aequo to Bulkina Anna and Baryshevskyi Antonii, the Third Prize to Tatiana Chernichka, the Fourth Prize to Min Soo Hong and the Fifth Prize ex-aequo to Sun-A Park and to Alessandro Taverna, the only Italian in the final competition. The Sicilian pianist won only the Special Prize “Gian Andrea Lodovici”.

Bad result for the umpteenth time for another Sicilian pianist Giuseppe Gullotta, which no doubt the jury would award the prize for having persevered faithfully in all these years trying in vain to bring home something.

As we can notice, people talk more and more seriously about the decline of the Italian Pianists. Meanwhile, looking forward the next edition of the Busoni wich uwill have the selections in 2012.
