At “Frantotipico”, the event dedicated to the culture of olive oil, which will be held in Spoleto and Castel Ritaldi on days 8, 9 and 10 November, will be able to attend interesting manifestations of popular music.
These include performances by Fabrizio Friends, Stefano di Sturco and La Società dei Musici.
The first two singers are suspended between the popular tradition and modern storytelling. Both interpret the Roman tradition of singing in personnel key, while maintaining some particular elements, such as the offhand. In this context, their performances are developed according to a narrative line in continuous evolution, which shows the strong link with the popular Roman culture and the contemporary system of its expressive melodic, textual , linguistic and symbolic references, that made it famous worldwide.
La Società dei musici is an ensemble of musicians and singers with experience in various areas of music. Their production is characterized by uncommon attention to the repertoires of oral tradition but also to the social elements that reflect these. The group is formed by Claudio Scarabottini (piano and mandolin), Stefano Trabalza (guitars), Gianluca Bibiani (accordion), Andrea Sensidoni (percussion), Daniel Pupella, Manilo Leoni and Stefano Santoni (voice). The show is offering a wide range of popular repertories of the territory of Spoleto (which are also popular in other areas of central Italy): serenades, narrative songs, singing of the Passion, lullabies, hymns of the Company and saltarello. Their proposal is often framed in an ironic and festive show, in which the songs are interspersed with comic and dialect plays.
Precisely because of the spirit of their revival, we can consider I Musici an important example of modernization of the music of oral tradition in Umbria. A project that fits into a regional scenario less articulate than elsewhere, but characterized by a revived very careful though not philological, which stands out – by virtue of a project defined and developed with consistency – the folkloric representation of the popular repertoire.
