Zampognorchestra is a four experimental musicians ensemble. So far nothing new: we are in the field of music and a degree of experimentation is always required. But in “Bag to the future,” the record out for Rare Records, has expanded, finally, the spectrum of expectations. Because the four musicians are bagpipers and bagpipes we all know (and generally come in contemporary soundscape only at Christmas) have never sounded like those of Zampognorchestra. The band not only evokes some traditional repertoires, but play some classic rock and jazz, stretching the capabilities of a not very known instrument and, above all, linked to old stereotypes. In an interview Giuseppe Moffa explains the idea behind the project: “We tried to deal with different music styles, just to understand that the bagpipes are not limited to Christmas, but that it can bring out a contemporary sound”. And speaking of the album “Bag to future” states: “There are original songs that refer to classical music and jazz, but also songs by the Rolling Stones and the Beatles, as well as compositions by Beethoven and Dvorak”. And finally: “consider the bagpipe an instrument of shepherds is too simplistic, we have searched a dialogue with the future, we have tried to make it alive and interesting as it can be an electric guitar. It is no coincidence then we used different types of bagpipes as the 6 palms, the 25th of Molise, the 30 zoppa and ciaramelle”.
