With the song “Route Levante Suite” the band Migala won the contest “Battle of The Bands”, organized by World Music Network, one of the most important label in the international world music scene. For the past few months, the group, based in Rome, has published “World’n’folk,”his first album produced by Paul & Roberto Pavan Records, characterized mainly by a music converge where many elements of popular music (especially) in the south Italian and a reinterpretation of “modern” of these, indeed contemporary, to the extent that it succeeds (as evidenced by this prestigious award) to communicate in an international context. What is the “Battle of The Bands”? It is an experiment that has two main objectives, both linked to the world of network and achievable only in this specific context. On the one hand spread the music of the many (and increasingly) ensembles that are dedicated to the music of oral tradition around the world. This process is simple and is based primarily on the desire (and necessity) of the band to be known. On the other hand, there is, however, the interest of amplifying the “movement” of the world music production. A movement that, through the contest, converges, also involving many groups that are not directly produced by the World Music Records, in the action of this. How do explain the two leaders of the project Migala, “every two months – through their portal – many international bands dedicated to World Music promotes an unreleased track and compete to win with the help of fans and listeners who vote and comment on – on line – the individual compositions of artists challengers. The purpose of the contest is to win a place on the editorial Songlines Magazine, one of the most important magazines in the world dedicated to World Music. In addition, the song and the band or artist winner become part of future recording projects handled by the World Music Network”.
