On 7 and 8 June, the CIP Alessandrino to Rome will host the eighth edition of the International Meeting of the tambourine. The event is organized by the Italian Society for Frame Drums (SITAC) and is the first devoted exclusively to the tradition of frame drums. As you can read on the website of the association, “the idea of organizing the meeting stems from the awareness that the tambourine and interpreters of Italian tradition deserve an event that satisfactorily represent a so complex and widespread reality. In addition, the Meeting intends to present itself as an opportunity to meet, debate and exchange between different realities music, dance and culture in the broadest sense that revolve around the frame drum in order to provide to all the participants, through fun and involvement with elements for real growth”.
The program is divided between performance and in-depth meetings, many of which are held by the same leaders of the association, founded in 2009 by three fans (Paolo Cimmino, David Conte and Gian Michele Montanaro) and today consists of more than two thousand members, including drummers, musicians, teachers, composers, developers, event organizers, etc. In short, the association important not only for the theme around which develop its activities but also to the consensus that in recent years has been getting.
The Meeting – whose previous editions have been able to rely on guests of international importance, as Mohossen Kasirossafar (which in 2009 held the seminar “The Duff in Iran”), Ettore Castagna (which in 2011 held a seminar on the Calabrian lira) Enza Pagliara, Zampognorchestra, Lavinia Mancusi, Daniele Sepe, Mascarimirì, and many others – this year presents a series of seminars and the exhibition of Paranza d’ ‘o Lione.
