It is true that at this time of festivals and exhibitions on folk music abound. Indeed, the program is full and you can listen to artists of high standard throughout our country: from Sicily to Friuli. It is also true, however, that it is important to shop around and do not forget to inform. Especially when events are important and, although in a less direct way, concerning questions generally face each other in this section. I say this because I think it is important not to point out (God forbid), but hint at Umbria Jazz Festival in Perugia, which will run until Sunday, July 19. As said, it is not necessary that you face here advertising. But living in the city in which it takes place through means jazz music, and not only, for at least two weeks. Through it physically, because it is everywhere: in the streets, in the alleys, in bars, in the clubs, etc. And this is without doubt an experience that music lovers would want to live. In the streets takes shape always the most popular version of the jazz culture. This year the groups who perform freely in Corso Vannucci and surrounding areas, are numerous. And the quality of the music offering often reaches very high levels (most notably the trio Accordi Disaccordi, which also performs every night at the Arena Santa Giuliana Restaurant Stage). There is the root jazz, blues much, there are some most spectacular variations of traditional jazz. But in general the formations vary and the approach is extemporaneous, which also determines the performance of some of the stars, such as Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, who performed as a duo at the Arena Santa Giuliana on the evening of July 14, or Stefano Bollani, who presented “Sheik Yer Zappa”, his latest album dedicated to Frank Zappa, Sunday 12. As is known, the festival tries to follow the two perspectives that led to its international success. A program made of big names (those already mentioned we can add Paolo Conte, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil, Subsonica, etc.), however, underpinned by tasteful suggestions. In the latter context extraordinary artists are placed, such as Charles Lloyd Quartet, the Brad Mehldau Trio, Antonio Farao ‘Quartet, Miguel Zenon Quartet, Ramin Bahrami eDanilo Rea.
