Nicola Benedetti and Ksenija Sidorova in an amazing new tango video

Por una cabeza must be one of the world’s most instantly-recognisable tangos even if its title is not one of the most well-known. The man who made it famous was tango-singer and actor Carlos Gardel, the Rudolph Valentino of South America in the 1930s before he was tragically killed in a plane crash aged only 44. Like Valentino only 9 years earlier in the USA, Gardel’s death prompted a national outpouring of grief in Argentina. This tango has been used in many films including True Lies with Arnold Schwarzeneggar and Scent of a Woman with Al Pacino. It is now given a new lease of life in an evocative new video with the fabulous Nicola Benedetti on violin and Ksenija Sidorova on Accordion.

Nicola Benedetti

Benedetti, who studied with Menuhin at the Menuhin School, has been at the top of her profession since winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2004 among other awards.

Ksenija Sidorova

Ksenija Sidorova

Sidorova, only one year her junior studied at the Royal Academy of Music under Owen Murray and has won many awards too including the Wigmore Award and is certainly the busiest accordionist in the UK. Still in their early twenties these two young artists have achieved so much so young and their busy careers are a testimony to this. It’s wonderful to see them bringing quality but having fun and letting their respective luxuriant hair down in such an iconic piece of music.
