christaShe started to play her first accordion when she was very young winning national and International prizes and awards soon. She sees all her working experiences as great opportunities to be lived together with her accordion. Gervasio Marcosignori, Pino di Modugno and Art Van Damme are her sources of inspiration without forgetting an original note. She’s publishing her new volum about music.

How do you describe your musical style and what are your sources of inspirations?

I started to attend accordion lessons when I was 6 with no idea of musical style and direction to follow. My father played the bandoneon and I love it. At 10 I won the 2nd place at the German Accordion Competition so I have been starting to think just about music and accordion. These are my endless passions. During competitions I have added an original note to the classical universe of the accordion till developing my true personal style among virtuosities

My heroes are Gervasio Marcosignori, Pino di Modugno and Art Van Damme. I love Italy and consider it my musical birthplace and above all I think my Beltuna accordion is like a Mercedes compared to other instruments.

Why did you choose to play a Beltuna instrument?

Undoubtedly Castelfidardo represents the excellence of the handicraft. There there are many companies that product brilliantly accordions, and I can say that Beltuna is like a praline: colored, beautiful, light… It is there to be admired like a beautiful woman!

She was a close friend of Gervasio Marcosignori. What memories do you have of him?

Gervasio was a dear friend. One of his lasting memory is related to his cheerful, smiley character… He was always available to everyone, and above all, he was an artist! He could make it look easy even performance of the very difficult pieces. His inspiration, his sympathy, his sentimentalist… He will be missed by me and the whole environment of the accordion. A great man!

You often play in duo with Pino Di Modugno. You are in great harmony and musical feeling. Is it born before the friendship or the musical harmony?

There has always been a great harmony and agreement with Pino. He shares my taste in the choice of songs, the improvisation, because he, like me, loves music and not only one style… And then… he is a great friend!

If you should ever realize your dream of opening a music school, as you would convince the youth to get closer and take an interest in the study of the accordion?

I would love to teach music to young people, and specifically the accordion. My advice to the younger generation is to study and to get closer to an instrument, music is a wonderful companion for life! I want to be appropriated to a friend Pino Di Modugno said: “It does not matter which instrument you choose to play, it is important that you play accordion.”

The accordion has always been associated to male musicians. Have you ever had difficulties entering this world?

Male accordionists have never been competitors for me. Of course, it’s easier for a man to hold a heavy instrument like an accordion and for this reason I attend a fitness course. Anyway, I’m not alone, because there are so many fascinating female accordionists.

Would you give a young female accordionist some advice?

I suggest not starting with a heavy accordion. I’ve done it but now I know that training and constancy are the essential elements because just determination leads to success.

My accordion is like a friend for me, it’s with me in both happy and sad moments. We have traveled together all over the world visiting wonderful places and discovering interesting things. I’ve never had regrets for this great opportunity.

What’s your greatest professional success?

My greatest satisfaction has been inning so many prizes and awards. Besides national rewards, I have won the first prize at the Pavia Accordion Festival, the second place at the World Championship in Nice, Hamburg and Ancona and the first one in Helsinki. Accordion is my job so I went to events, TV and radio shows and for me every single experience is a great success.

What are you working on at the moment and what about your next dates?

I’m always all around the world in order to play and perform but unfortunately I have noted a decrease of media interest in the accordion universe. I hope this instrument will have the right attention and recognition soon.

Now I’m also working on a music book which will be published next Autumn: Volum 2 “Consigli dita”. Finally there is my special dream: opening a school of music for new generations.
