Made in collaboration with the Diocese and the Diocesan Historical Archive of Alghero Bosa, it will take place on December 23 at the Cathedral of Santa Maria Immacolata in Alghero the show “Cantata di Natale”. It is an event of great importance, in which both elements converge traditional expressive due to the Christmas season, and certain repertoires of folk and ancient music of Sardinia, Sicily and, in general, the Mediterranean basin. The authors of the original production and arrangements are Elena Ledda (voice), Mauro Palmas (Lute cantabile), Marcello Peghin (guitar), Silvano Lobina (bass), Alessandro Foresti (organ) and Maria Gabriella Ledda (original texts). Along with the most significant songs of the folk tradition Sardinian and Sicilian, some historical compositions will be performed, in order to cross a very wide span, which comes from the Middle Ages to the present day. In particular, the artists will perform a “cantiga” taken from the collection “Cantigas de Santa María” of Alfonso X El Sabio, singing monophonic Spanish thirteenth century in honor of the Virgin Mary; “Riu Riu Chiu”, a “villancico” (in Spanish Christmas folk song), typically built in Spain and Portugal at the end of the fifteenth century, “Gaudete Christus est natus”, probably composed in the sixteenth century, the text of which is a Latin typical medieval song of praise; “Cant dels ocells”, a traditional Catalan song by an anonymous author probably dates back to the early eighteenth century, the CatalanAve Maria, an evidence of the Aragonese presence in the island.
