Fest for GeorgeHe was released on February 26 “Gearge Fest: A night to celebrate the music of George Harrison”, the tribute that the son Dhani has dedicated to the guitarist who died in 2001. It is a collection of very interesting material, both for those who love Harrison’s music and for those who have the passion of the contemporary. The reason is simple: many of the artists on the international scene to reinterpret today, with the direction of his son George (also a musician and author), the soloist repertoire of the great musician, born in Liverpool in 1943. As we know, in about a year after the death, Harrison had been celebrated by all his closest friends at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Among the participants at the concert (directed by Eric Clapton), there were Ravi Shankar, his daughter Anoushka, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Billy Preston, Jools Holland, Albert Lee, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr. “George Fest” But – as explained by the same Dhani – is not born from the desire to remember George, but by the desire to experiment with the way his music, through the contribution of the new generation of musicians. The formula that gave light to the project is that of the concert, which was held last September 28 to Fonda Theater in Los Angeles, with the participation of Brian Wilson, Norah Jones, Brandon Flowers of The Killers, Conan O’Brien, The Flaming Lips, Ben Harper, Britt Daniel of Spoon, Ann Wilson of Heart, Dhani Harrison and many others. At the concert now follows the publication of the discs (presented in different boxes, both vinyl and CD, in addition to the film), containing a wide selection of works by Harrison. I quote a few: “Old Brown Shoe” (played by Conan O’Brien), “I Me Mine” (Britt Daniel), “Something” (Norah Jones), “Wah-Wah” (Nick Valensi), “If I Needed Someone “(Jamestown Revival),” Beware Of Darkness “(Ann Wilson).
