Iosif PuritsIosif Purits has recently started his post-graduate diploma course at the Royal Academy of Music in London after completing his studies under Friedrich Lips in Moscow. On the 7th October he made his debut concert in the RAM’s Henry Wood Room where he played a scintillating and varied programme of pieces that left the audience amazed at this young man’s ability.

Purits started with a contemporary piece by Bent Lorentzen called tears where he displayed a real aptitude in putting this type of music across. He followed that with Satanic Apparition by Prokoviev which was also evocatively conveyed to the audience. Astor Piazzolla next and his Ave Maria. Then back to the Baroque period for some Vivaldi and the first movement from Winter taken from The Four Seasons. Staying with the Baroque but this time playing keyboard repertoire Purits performed one of Scarlatti’s Sonata’s in D minor. Perhaps my favourite piece of the concert was next. Toccata from Symphony No. 1 by Rodion Shchedrin. Some Romantic repertoire came next with Mussorgsky’s Children’s Scherzo. He finished off with a fabuolous arrangement by Horowitz of Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody No. 15 Ràckòsczy March. All of it was technically flawless. The audience enthusiastically applauded and Purits treated them to an encore.

We wish Purits well and know that he will get a lot out of studying at the RAM’s wonderful accordion department which in turn continues to attract the world’s best accordionists despite the considerable costs involved in studying there and living in London.
