With a preview that will be held Tuesday, July 15 in Castiglione del Lago, Trasimeno Blues – the traveling festival that embraces the lake area – will usher in the new edition, which will feature the so-called Desert blues. And to give account of the big news that the show (the first edition was published in 1996) wants to share with his many fans, the first to perform will Tinariwen, the Tuareg group from Mali who, in fact, paved the way the admixture of the musical impressions of the oral traditions of West Africa and the blues traditions overseas. As we have written in these pages, their latest album Emmaar – produced by Anti Records, the record company that counts among its artists Tom Waits, Milk Carton Kids, Dr. Dog, Wilko, Glen Hansard – has been a great success and, most importantly, has decreed the propensity of the Tuareg collective to experimentation, always produced in the framework of their political exile from Mali. In fact Emmaar has reference not the deserts of Africa, but one in California and has been built thanks to collaborations with artists such as Josh Klinghoffer of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Matt Sweeney of Chavez, the rapper Saul Williams and multi-instrumentalist Fats Kaplin. The celebration of the desert blues – this current luminescent who for many years has produced interesting results, both musically and culturally – continues with two other big names in the African and international scenario. On July 26, will perform the Tamikrest, Malians but also more “exposed” to contamination with blues, rock, psychedelia, dub and funk. As you can read in the presentation notes of Trasimeno Blues: the Tamikrest “did not know directly the armed rebellion and their music is more joyful, more open to innovation and to the contemporary scene. In the last album Chatma the social struggle is interwoven with the musical experimentation: soft atmospheres and hypnotic vocals “call and answers”, the typical sounds of the blues and rock and funk, confirming the high quality of the admixture of traditional and modern soul”. The grand finale of the event is assigned to another great artist that we talked about a few months ago, whose name coincides now, and rightly so, with the new perspective of contaminated and post-modern world music. This is the singer and guitarist Bombino – real name: Omara Mocta – which has reached the top of the international charts with his latest album Nomad, produced in Nashville by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, who has been placed among the fifty best albums of the 2013, from NPR Music. The griot guitarist will perform in Città della Pieve on the evening of August 3.
