II International Competition of Folk Instruments Players 

(“B.A.G. – Bayan. Accordion. Garmonika.”)

1-3 of April, Moscow – Russia

 

2° International Competition of Folk Instruments PlayersII International Competition of Folk Instruments Players (“B.A.G. – Bayan. Accordion. Garmonika.”) was hosted in the Moscow Province College of Arts from 1st to 3rd of April 2016. The previous competition was held two years ago at the initiative of the famous musician and public figure Alexander Selivanov and at the first onset gathered a huge number of participants – about 150 musicians.2° International Competition of Folk Instruments Players

This year the tradition has continued, the contest attracted more than 130 participants. Geography of competition also was expanded – musicians from different regions of Russia (Moscow and Moscow region, St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod, Kurgan, Petrozavodsk, Krasnoyarsk, etc.), as well as from other countries – Lithuania, Belarus and China – visited this event.

The competition was supported by the Ministry of Culture of Moscow region, Moscow Province College of Arts, the Children’s School of Arts by A.N. Verstovsky, accordion company Scandalli and LTD “Concert program”.

2° International Competition of Folk Instruments PlayersThe three-days marathon revealed many talented artists in various nominations and categories:

“Academic bayan, accordion”: up to 10 years, up to 13 years, up to 15 years, students colleges (I and II year), students of colleges (III and IV year), concert performers up to 25 years.2° International Competition of Folk Instruments Players

“Variety bayan, accordion”: students of colleges (I and II year), students of colleges (III and IV year), concert performers up to 25 years.

“Digital bayan, accordion, harmonica”: up to 15, up to 19 years, performers no age limit.

“Ensemble”: up to 15, up to 21 years, performers no age limit.

2° International Competition of Folk Instruments PlayersNot every competition can boast of such a representative jury which included well-known musicians from different countries: Mirco Patarini (Chairman of the jury in the senior categories, Italy), Michail Burlakov (Chairman of the jury in the junior categories, Russia), Kazys Stonkus (Lithuania) Vladislav Pligovka (Belarus), as well as Russian artists (in alphabetical order) – Yulia Amerikova, Maxim Fedorov, Victor Kiselev, Vladimir Orlov, Sergei Ozerov, Alexander Selivanov, Maria Vlasova.

Besides the contest auditions there were two meetings with foreign musicians, members of the jury Kazys Stonkus and Mirco Patarini, who talked about the modern situation and trends in the accordion art in their countries, about their points of view on the accordion repertoire, about accordion industry. These meetings aroused great interest and responsiveness from the public which participated in the interviews.

2° International Competition of Folk Instruments PlayersThe 3rd of April in the Great Hall of the College was held award ceremony for the winners of the competition and Gala concert, where winners of the ensemble categories, as well as famous musicians Eduard Akhanov, Maxim Fedorov and Vladislav Domogatskii (guitar) were performed.

The winners of the competition represented various performing schools and regions. Grand Prix winner – participant of the category “Academic accordion up to 15 years”  Nikita Alymov (St. Petersburg, Professor Orlov V.E.).

Participants and members of the jury as well as the audience unanimously noted warm, friendly, creative atmosphere of the event, excellent organization of the competition and called this competition “The celebration of music, talents and creative meetings”!

It can be said that the competition is becoming a good tradition and has taken a worthy place in the cultural life not only in Moscow but also in Russia.
