The twenty-first edition of La Zampogna – Festival of Traditional Music and Culture, will be held in Maranola, in the province of Latina, 17 to 19 January 2014. As you can read on the website dedicated to the event – one of the oldest in Italy – the event “involves a growing number of scholars, musicians, instrument makers and the public, showing how strong and ever-increasing attention to this important instrument of the Italian folk tradition”.
On the occasion of this new edition, we will pay special attention to trade for bagpipe and gaida, through the presence of two groups that know their repertoires for these two instruments. The Unavantaluna – Sicilian ensemble winner of the last Parodi Prize – and the Portuguese (from the areas of Miranda) Gaida de foles.
There will also be space for several meetings, among which the one on Sicilian marranzano, curated by Luca Recupero, and to learn from the best manufacturers of traditional instruments, which will liven up a trade show of the most important industry in Italy.
The Festival La Zampogna is one of the Italian partners of EFWMF – European Forum of World Music Festivals (European network of the 40 most important festival of folk music).
The event program can be found here.
