The Duo Bottasso has two brothers, violinisti Nicolò and bandoneon player Simone. Their first album is titled “Crescendo” and is enjoying great success with critics, especially thanks to the originality of the songs that make up and the general performance of the musical narrative, which is configured as experimental and, at the same time, essential. The album (produced by Visage Music and distributed by Materiali Sonori) consists of nine tracks, which, except for some (played with different formations, which include collaborations with various artists and musicians), are mainly played by the duo. Furthermore, sliding ladder, emerges cleanly as the two brothers – whose nearest traditional references are the the Cuneo valleys – have decided to organize a musical narrative linked to more expressive traditions, giving space to original compositions, interpretations of dance music, and traditional Norwegian, Irish, French, Brazilian tunes. In the passages that the brothers Bottasso perform as a duo is not felt the absence of other instruments, primarily because they are exploited in the best way the timbre potential of the violin and bandoneon. In some of these songs – such as “Magicicada”, “The Rose of Raby / Enchanted” and “Monkerrina” – offering complex harmonic structures, referring to a very convincing expressiveness and original reinterpretation of different traditional forms of expression. One of the most interesting pieces is undoubtedly “Reina”, in which the duo offers a “meeting point between the Occitan music and sounds of the Mediterranean”: involves Mauro Palmas playing lute cantabile and is sung masterfully by Sardinian singer Elena Ledda, which interprets – running a “contrafactum”, that implanting a new text on a traditional melody of Val Varaita – a text of her sister Maria Gabriella.
