In this time of great crisis for Mali, eclectic leader of Blur Damon Albarn, resumed his historic collaboration with several artists of the West-African country. The political motive is the development of a project which, in the early stages, took shape in the early years of the millennium, when Albarn recorded an album with Afel Bocoum and Toumani Diabaté, following a mission to Africa with Oxfam, the non-governmental organization dedicated to sustainable development and the promotion of public awareness campaigns around the world. The artistic motive is Africa Express, a project that in 2012 saw him take the train in England with African and Western pop scene artists, like Amadou & Miriam, Charli XCX, Jack Steadman, Kano, Temper Trap, Nick Zinner, John Paul Jones, Tony Allen, etc.

In this period Albarn is located in Bamako to record the disc Africa Express, thought as the development of the last year itinerant project. At the record will also participate Brian Eno, Ghostpoet and Holy Other, and will be the result of public performances recordings that will take place in the capital of Mali. A video of one of the recordings session can already be seen on the Guardian website.
