From December 14 to 15 , the Cinema Odeon in Florence hosts the sixth edition of the film festival “Pictures & Sounds of the World. Ethnomusical Film Festival”. The screenings will be divided between the afternoon session (from 16.00 to 20.00) and evening (from 21.00). The event, produced by the Multi Culti, in collaboration with Flog and implemented with the support of the Tuscany Regional Media, is part of the calendar of the “50 days of international cinema in Florence”.
The festival will screen documentaries Italian first run, the last musical by Carlos Saura, Flamenco, Flamenco (photography by Vittorio Storaro), with the participation of some of contemporary flamenco stars as Sara Baras, José Miguel Carmona, Montse Cortés and Paco de Lucía, and the documentary on the Algerian El chabi Gustodi Safinez Bousbia, the story of an orchestra made up of musicians Algerian Arabs and Jews.
Other titles in the program, two documentaries Biography: Soundbreaker Kimmo Koskela on the Finnish accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen, and Pierre -Yves Viramundodi Bourgeaud, a musical journey with Gilberto Gil in contact with nature, which leaves from Brazil and arrives up to Africa and Australia, in what is not just a tour but an extraordinary opportunity to meet and exchange among different ethnicities and cultures. In addition, the extraordinary fiction film Violeta if fue a los cielos Andrés Wood on the tragic story of the Chilean singer Violeta Parra.
On the bill are also two short films: Hungu Nicolas Brault, animated film in which the sound of a bow sound becomes a metaphor for the cycle of life and Percussion Kid Mohamed Achaour, dramatic story of a child of the mountains of Morocco told to the rhythm of percussion.
In closing, Voci del popolo contadino by Salvatore Raiola, documentary film in which the author research the last people who gave voice to the vesuvian tradiitonal music. Will follow the concert performance of the tammurriata “Paranza R’O Lione” that will take the stage of the Odeon Cinema major representatives of this style of music known as the tammurriata.
