On January 19, will be held in Cascia the “Rassegna delle Pasquarelle”, an historical event which this year celebrates the thirty-eighth edition. The formula is always the same, namely the alternation of “pasquarellari ” and folk groups of central Italy on a stage set up ad hoc and in the streets of the historic center of the city, but the turnout of spectators and the general interest of observers and scholars grow from year to year. Most of the groups are coming, as well as from various parts of Umbria, from Marche, Lazio, Tuscany, Abruzzo and perform during the span of an entire day devoted exclusively to popular music. As you can imagine, the show is a form of representation of the popular repertoire of Pasquarelle. Which are, however, still performed “running” (ie, according to the traditional form) in some areas of the central Apennines and of the Nera Valley. In particular, the tradition of Pasquarelle is very lively in Cascia, where the songs are generally performed by groups of singers accompanied by accordion on the evening of January 5. The group is composed of people of all ages, who are roaming the country singing and asking for an alms.
