The Association Sonidumbra and CEDRAV (Center for Documentation and Anthropological Research in Nera Valley) will open on August 23 in Cerreto di Spoleto the Festival of the Charlatan. The event – which will run until December, following a schedule that in-depth meetings, seminars, exhibitions, concerts – primarily wants to investigate the role of charlatan, famous as misunderstood through three stages that characterize the day of 23 August. The first is a conference sponsored by the CEDRAV, the second is the party with the shows and concerts, the third is represented by practical workshops on street theater and popular music. As you can read in the presentation of the event, through the conference – scheduled at 10 am in the conference room of the former monastery of San Giacomo – you want to re-evaluate the role and importance of the charlatan. These, in fact, “commonly considered a ‘cheat'”, he instead “exercised over time the function of ‘healer’ through the use of balms and ointments prepared with herbal medicine based on knowledge of the healing properties of herbs, proven by the permissions granted by medical authorities at the time the sale of their products”. The shows will be held in the Pontano square and, from 17.00, will take turns “the friends of the charlatan” (street performers, entertainers, singers, stilt walkers, fire eaters, storytellers, musicians), then culminate in the evening of the concert Sonidumbra, which will be dedicated the storyteller and the figure of the charlatan.
