Saturday, September 21, in Pisticci, in the province of Matera, will be presented the book “Traditional music in Basilicata. Recordings of Diego Carpitella and Ernesto De Martino “, edited by Giorgio Adamo. The presentation is scheduled for 18:30 in Corso Marconi 132. In addition to the author, will be attended Grazia Giannace and Pancrazio Toscano, Vito Anio Di Trani and Francesco D’Onofrio (Mayor and Councillor for Culture of the City of Pisticci) and Giovanni Di Lena (president of CECAM Association).
The book came out a few months ago for the publisher Squilibri and is included in the series AEM – Archives of Ethnomusicology, which are already present important critical contributions (with the sound documents) on the history of ethnomusicological recordings madein our regions. Among them we can mention “Traditional music of Molise”, edited by M. Agamennone and V. Lombardi, “Traditional music of Salento”, edited by M. Agamennone, “Traditional music in Abruzzo”, edited by D. Di Virgilio. The volume refers to the shipment on Basilicata (30 September-31 October 1952) which is considered “the birth certificate of Italian ethnomusicology, because for the first time field recordings were carried out according to criteria organically unit. Made with the technical means madeavailable by RAI, within an anthropological investigation conducted by a team formed by Ernesto De Martino, Diego Carpitella, Vittoria de Palma, Franco Pinna and Marcello Venturoli, surveys interested the areas of Matera, Grottole, Ferrandina, Pisticci, Colobraro, Valsinni, Stigliano, Tricarico, Marsico Vetere, Viggiano and Savoia di Lucania”.
