The guitarist and record producer Jack White has donated $ 200,000 to the National Recording Preservation Foundation, one of the most active in the field of protection of music archives and partner of the Library of Congress in Washington.

As noted by George Massenburg – record producer, engineer and member of the board of the Foundation – “since the forties the recording standard was the magnetic tape, a support vulnerable especially to humidity. Most of the sound archives are stored on analog tapes, which have suffered extensive damage with the flooding that devastated New Orleans in 2005 after Hurricane Katrina. “Massenburg recalled the efforts made to recover the files – where are deposited mainly jazz recordings – damaged in New Orleans, as well as recovery operations of the documents filed in libraries and radio stations. In fact, “we do not know what objects are important as long as we can not look inside the collections, to hear and to identify what they contain”.
