LeydiFrom December 1 to 3 will take place in Venice the conference entitled “For Roberto Leydi. Liturgical songs of oral tradition: the research of the last decade”. The three days of study, designed and curated by Maurizio Agamennone (University of Florence), at the same time will be a symposium of scholars in memory of Roberto Leydi – died ten years ago – and an opportunity for updating and deepening one of the topics on which the ethnomusicologist of Ivrea has worked: the liturgical songs of oral tradition. The conference will take place at the Fondazione “Ugo e Olga Levi”, while in the Church of San Trovaso and San Samuele will take place two concerts. In the first, Sunday, December 1 at 15:00, the “Cantori di Premana” will perform the “Ambrosian Vespers of the Third Sunday of Advent (solemn celebration in ancient Ambrosian rite)”. In the church of San Samuele, at the close of the third day of study, at 20.00, The “Choir of the Church of St. Anne ( Zoppè di Cadore)” will perform in the concert entitled “Lessons, hymns and psalms of oral tradition (patriarchino ritual Liturgical songs)”. The conference will analyze the development of the phenomena related to the liturgical songs in recent years. As can be deduced from the titles, the collection of contributions defines a dynamic field of study, which covers a large area on an international level. The liturgical repertoires of Umbria will be presented by Giancarlo Palombini, professor of ethnomusicology at the University of Perugia, in a context of critical analysis of the cultural heritage processes, in particular, of the confraternity songs of Gubbio. The title of his speech, scheduled for December 2, is “Brotherhoods of Umbria: recent processes of capitalization of penitential devotions”. Among the many scholars who will contribute to the conference, there will Piero G. Arcangeli (Graduate School of music “G. Briccialdi “, Terni), Nico Staiti (University of Bologna), Febo Guizzi (University of Turin), Francesco Giannattasio (Sapienza University of Rome), Girolamo Garofalo (University of Palermo), Giovanni Giuriati (Sapienza University of Rome), Nicola Scaldaferri (State University of Milan), Ignazio Macchiarella (University of Cagliari).
