PonoPono was announced several months ago in the U.S. , and although many of the details had remained strategically blurred, had piqued the interest of the whole world of music. On the one hand because the promoter was Neil Young – not a traditionalist singer-songwriter but whose music leave little glimpse of opening such ” technology ” – and, secondly, because it was a new music player and, above all, a new music format. Indeed, according to the words of Young, an unprecedented sound system.

Now Pono has been officially launched through the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter and, in a few days, has already received acceptances in excess of two million dollars. The reader costs about four hundred dollars and can hold 128 gigabytes of music, equivalent to several hundred albums. Once in possession of Pono (which is a normal portable player) you will have to install a software to manage and sync the music, and you can download albums or individual tracks from an online store. “Pono respect the work of artists and their will”, said Neil Young during one of the presentations of the last few days, “because it has a sound quality that you’ve never heard”. And he added, “will make you realize what the musicians have really done in the studio”, because, unlike the mp3 (which, as we all know, compresses audio files compromising quality), the format of Pono is sampled according to the standards higher quality, ie 192 kHz and 96 bits.

This video shows the experiences of many artists who have experienced Pono.
