Nando Citarella e Tamburi del VesuvioWe share with our readers a very important news that may be of interest to all music lovers and especially those who want to contribute to raising awareness of the musical heritage of Italy in the world and, in particular, in the English-speaking countries. It came, in fact, the call for papers for “Music and Society in Italy”, a monograph that will be taken care of by the “Forum italicum ,” the leading journal in the field of italian studies. The output volume is planned for the summer of 2015, and as guest editor of the journal Alessandro Carrera specifies (Graduate Director, World Cultures & Literature, Department of Modern & Classical Languages, University of Houston ), “could be an opportunity to bring your expertise and your musical sensitivity with regard to the social and historical Italian music in the field of ‘Italian Studies’ in the English-speaking world. Will be welcome essays on folk music, songs of the era, songwriters, rock, pop, hip-hop, classical music, jazz, fusion, musical theater, dance and techno, soundtracks, as well as interactions between music and poetry, or between poetry and song lyrics, as well as work on music and media, execution practices, music publishing, the music industry, music emigration and the aesthetics of sound and music”. With respect to information of a technical nature, we note the following: “Please send abstracts and papers, in English or in Italian (Word format) to the guest editor Alessandro Carrera (acarrera@central.uh.edu). The deadline for abstracts is December 15, 2014. That for the essays is October 31, 2014. Texts should not exceed the length of 25 pages, double-spaced, including endnotes and bibliography. Authors must follow the MLA style, referring to a recent “MLA Handbook for Research papers” or referring sites like http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/747/01/. Important: where possible, paraphrase the verses of the songs rather than mention them. Pour in Italian or in languages other than English may perhaps be accepted, if not too many, but permission for publication of the verses in English can be extremely expensive, and the publisher may refuse to pay them”.
