“Toumast tincha” is the new single by the Malian group Tinariwen

Tinariwen DesertTinariwen means more or less “deserts”. Is the name of a group that is considered by many critics one of the best in the world music constellation, rose to international prominence from about ten years – that is, since when Justin Adams (guitarist of Robert Plant’s Strange Sensation), meet them at the Festival au Desert in Mali and produced their first album, “The Radio Tisdas Sessions” in 2001 – but active (especially among the country of Saharan Africa) from the end of the seventies. Tinariwen are also defined as a group of Tuareg, noting at the same time geopolitical belonging and cultural archetype. Their music is a mixture of sounds and styles that today, as we said above, fully fall in world music, and that is the result of a match between genres that have many similarities: the blues, some of Mali traditional musics and Tuareg cultures, overlapping guitar in a scenario in which stands a very slender musical narrative, along with the virtuosity and, in general, “typical” electric of the West African guitarists (one can think of Bombino, among young people, but also to master Ali Farka Toure). It is a good example of these convergences “Toumast tincha” (which means “the people have been sold out “), the single anticipating their new album “Emmaar”, which will be released February 10, 2014.
