Stefano Bellotti, aka Cisco, recently released “Weddings and funerals”, his new album of unreleased songs. Cisco – historical voice of Modena City Ramblers – adds to his solo discography an album by a very sharp boundaries, both musical and textual content. The latter focus on themes dear to him – politics, social conflicts, the dynamics related to consumerism and power – but, in this new work, are treated in a more reflective way. A perspective that converges substantially at a glance on the life and the different stages that characterize it. As you can read in the many news that accompanied the release of the album, Cisco wanted to reorganize his analysis, trying to define the traits of a story that starts from birth and even unto death. In this framework, the album is a sequence of cycles of passage, although each stage is proposed in connection with the social and political context within which fits the individual with his stories and experiences. The first track is titled “Like lambs among wolves” and regards the birth. While the last, as a reflection of the fitting on the path of each of us, is called (very clearly) “Ashes to Ashes”. In general “Weddings and Funerals” is a good album, in which, through the eleven tracks that make up, Cisco wanted to prove himself even musically. Hence the decision to differentiate its language – which remain, however, recognizable through stylistic lines that characterized his solo production – through the provision of a more complex instrumentation, using in particular the wind, giving the performance of a stamped original and very pleasant album. To characterize in part the sound of the album Cisco asked the contributions of some of the most important musicians of the national music scene, as Massimo Zamboni, Francesco Magnelli, Angela Baraldi (the first two in force in the historical formation of the C.S.I., while Baraldi is the voice of the new project, former C.S.I., which also includes Gianni Maroccolo and Giorgio Canali), but also some of his collaborators and fellow travelers: Giovanni Rubbiani and Kaba Arcangelo Cavazzuti, the latter engaged in the artistic production of the album.
