From Thursday 20 to Sunday, August 23 there will be a new edition of Ariano Folk Festival. Among the many exhibitions that deal in Italian popular music and, in a broader framework, the many expressions linked to international musical cultures, that of Ariano itself as innovative. First because it manages to intercept interesting artists who, even through the festival, fail to reach the Italian public. And also because – as you can read in a note on the site – the event is closely linked to the territory, thanks to a cooperation agreement with the Campania Region, “which aims to develop an integrated tourist promotion of entire region of Irpinia, being able to leverage the enormous attraction that the same events have proven over the years to be able to generate”. Finally let’s not forget that Ariano Folk Festival is one of the oldest in our area. Suffice it to say that the first edition was held in 1996. This year, as proof of this, the bill is extraordinary. For both Italian and foreign artists. Let’s start with the latter. One of the most interesting names is Hollie Cook, British young singer (daughter of Paul Cook, drummer of the Sex Pistols), whose music is the result of various influences: pop, tropical, reggae and dub. The concert is scheduled for Friday, August 21 in Piazzale Calvario. Another special concert is that of the Orchestra Cesaria Evora, scheduled for Thursday, August 20th. The training includes mainly musicians who accompanied the singer of Cape Verde to the world, and who gathered recently for the Kriol Jazz Festival in Praia, to pay tribute to the music of Cesaria. Last among the groups and international artists is the duo Calexico, of which we know some experience thanks to the collaboration with Vinicio Capossela: the song “The face of the moon”, which became the album “Alone” and “Octopus with love”, the Calexico added as a bonus track for the Italian market of “Carried to die”. Moving to Italy report the presence of the Mau Mau, veterans of the ethno-rock and independent scene of our country. The band formed in 1991, won the Tenco Award with the first album “Sauta Rebel” and today is not only active but is working on a new musical project (the concert is on the bill Thursday, August 20th in Piazzale Calvario).
