Maybe, in hindsight, it is the most important festival of the summer. The most comprehensive. What most of all took over, immediately, in the form of a complex and charismatic event. That goes beyond music, beyond the reification of tradition, to look from different perspectives, and reconsider a scenario apparently unchanged, but in the end never stays the same. It’s Calitri Sponz Fest, the long-awaited festival created and directed by Vinicio Capossela and that takes place in Alta Irpinia 24 to 30 August. Scrolling the program you may see not big names, but it is irresistibly attracted by the many facets of the festival. That comes to music (God forbid: Capossela even celebrate his twenty-five year career with the show “Night Silver”, scheduled on August 29 from night to dawn, the disused railway station of Conza-Andretta-Cairano) but actually it is and covers a territory largely unknown. And that Capossela want to know, or rather wants to imagine, interpret, through the elements that attract him more: the mystical agriculture, harvest, food, travel, caravans, time and its size more dreamlike and, at the same time, more concrete (as he tells us: “auscultate yourself, along an ancient land. Eat it together, dance it, drink it, think of it, in communion, as a symposium”). As for the guests, we remember some of the most important: the greek singer and composer Antonis Xylouris, aka Psarantonis; King Naat Veliov & The Original Kocani Orkestar; Fanfare Tirana & Robert Bisha; Vincenzo Vasi, multi-instrumentalist, composer but also theremin players; Antonio Infantino; Salento singer and researcher Enza Pagliara.
