In August 2010 Dominic Karcic initiated the organizing of an accordion club – Long Island Accordion Alliance (LIAA) – on Long Island, NY. In most cases the club meets the first Tuesday of every month (January 2013 will be an exception) at a local restaurant and usually have a featured guest artist.
Thee group consists of ten accordionists (four professionals – the rest amateurs who love to play). The accordionists play individually, in small groups and also play as an orchestra. Dominic Karcic creates all the orchestral arrangements. The club also encourages patrons who play accordion to come with their instrument and play a piece or two. Many do.
This experiment has been a tremendous success. The restaurant is full every month.
There is no December meeting but the next session will be in January.
The next LIAA meeting will feature the “Accordion Kings”- Wed., Jan. 2nd event.
