Folkest. International folk festival opens its doors again and, from the 3rd until July 26 (official dates of the programming, to which are added those of previews in June, which saw perform Vinicio Capossela e la Banda della Posta), will take turns on stage artists and groups from different backgrounds and traditions.
Among the hilights this year we surely remember the concert of Modena City Ramblers (scheduled for Saturday, July 19th in Capodistria, Carpaccio Square), one of Riccardo Tesi & Banditaliana (who will perform July 23 in Gemona, park via Dante), the Cristiano De André (July 25th in Piazza Duomo in Spilimbergo) and, finally, that the Sicilian ensemble Unavantaluna (July 17 Cosa – San Giorgio della Richinvelda – corte di Castelcosa). As every year, the programming of the festival is very diverse and, in addition to maintaining and strengthening the bond with a dynamic area, crossed by many cultural and musical influences, is updated to take into account the voices of young people and, at the time lying, of ‘broad spectrum of Italian popular music and beyond. For a bit of history, the first edition of Folkest dates back to 1979 and you simply slide the interesting documentation available on the website of the event to realize that, from the outset, the organizers wanted to give proper emphasis to the most important and deep items in the folk and popular scene of our country. Only in the first ten years, in fact (and, it should be remembered, in a political and cultural substantially adverse to the revival of oral tradition expressions), was attended by the most important exponents of the folk of various Italian regions: La Ciapa Russa, Lou Dalfin, Ambrogio Sparagna, La Macina, Re Niliu, Calicanto, Melchiade Benni e Annibale Barbieri. But even big names of the international scene, including Fairport Convetion, Marc Perrone, John Faulkner Group, Alan Stivell. This year, as part of a program oriented to establish guidelines of Italian folk music inspired, proposals ranging from folk music to the music for the band, from songwriting to experimentation. And do not miss the chance to retrace the history of the event through the videos of the various editions: there are, in fact, two appointments during which will be projected images and archive footage, through which you will be able to retrace these intense thirty six years of music and representations (Friday 25 and Saturday 26 July in Spilimbergo, Torre Orientale).
