Curriculum Virginio Aiello - Ivano BiscardiThis work explores a new sector of the genre: jazz accordion. The accordion was just considered as an instrument for playing popular music for many years, and only recently has been recognized as a “cultured” instrument, thanks its introduction as a fully accredited Conservatory subject. In fact, thanks to its own expressive power and versatility, this instrument is played in every musical context, including jazz, popular, and classical music. And just for that, it needs a reflection about a new approach to that instrument. Starting from traditional methods, that book wants to provide an important technical and practical baggage, being in close contact with the rules of contemporary harmony and with the purpose of developing the practice of improvising. The approach given in this book is an expression of educational research dictated by personal experience, from the experimentation and the results obtained over the years. The book comes from the comparison with many accordion teachers and the need to renew teaching, making it current. This method is addressed to the students attending the pre-academic classes in the Conservatories, Music High Schools and first level Music Secondary Schools. It seeks to acquire an organized and well-arranged training, depending on the levels of difficulty, so that granting suitable technical and theoretical knowledge. The approach used is directed to the understanding of the topics covered on a basis that takes into account the technical development of both hands. The text, in fact, progressively covers topics technically more advanced, enriched with tips and useful in-depth exercises without leaving out the part dedicated functional harmony, with the harmonization of the scales, the explanation of acronyms, the arpeggios, the various types chords, progressions II-V-I major and minor and voicings. The reference level of the same is to those who already have a sufficient mastery of the instrument, as well as a basic knowledge of major and minor scales, tones, intervals, chords and progressions, in order to begin a course of study in this specific area, such as to make order in their preparation. In fact, the book doesn’t help the outstanding teaching methods, but it wants to complete them by new points of view, making a more exciting and pleasing course of studies. Our manual, the “Jazz Accordion Complete Book”  is comprised of 9 chapters and 240 pages and displayed in three parts. The first part deals with the basic techniques, by technical and articulation exercises including scales, arpeggios, finger independence, and thumb passages. The second section includes several topics  such as  functional harmony using the seventh chords in all their positions, the practice of II-V-I cadences, voicing, modes, unusual scales. The last section consists of creative applications in order to  learn technical and theoretical knowledge, as well as the correct performance and improvisation of standard jazz and blues. The method does not appear in-depth explanations harmonics, or analysis of structures, as means to provide a path purely focused on the technical aspect of the instrument while taking into account the fundamental of harmony.
